Publication of new edition of ISO 9001:2008 expected in October-November 2008
The draft International Standard was approved by technical committee ISO/TC 176 in Novi Sad, Serbia on May 2008. The ISO 9001 standard will be circulated in July as a Final Draft International Standard, on which ISO's national member bodies as a whole may vote. The ISO 9001:2008 will be the fourth edition of the standard.
It is estimated that over one million organizations in private and public sectors, in manufacturing and services, and in 170 countries are certified for the ISO 9001 Standard. That's a lot!
So what is taking them so long? Their responsibility. This new edition will affect over a million organizations worldwide. Therefore they need to take their time and to double check every change made. Remember this Standard can be implemented in any (!!!) organization what so ever. That's what makes it so unique.
