ISO 9001:2008 vs. ISO 9001:2015 – Scope

The purpose of Chapter 1, Scope, is to define the application of the standard to your quality management system. The scope refers to the goals and purposes of the standard, the intended application, the approach and references to regulatory requirements, the approach and references to customer requirements. The scope indicates restrictions, principles, constraints, and limitations regarding the implementation of the various standard requirements. Defining the scope correctly will assist the organization in determining the context of the organization  , its interested parties, and its products and services.

ISO 9001:2015  presents new normative References

The ISO 9001:2015 refers the reader to the documentation ISO 9000:2015, Quality management systems — Fundamentals and vocabulary. The ISO 9001:2015 is a revision of the ISO 9000:2005. This documentation describes the fundamentals of quality management systems.

In other words when questions or misunderstandings arise during the implementation and application of the standard requirements. This document is not yet available.

While the ISO 9001:2008 has one reference regarding product and services, the ISO 9001:2015 has a long list of new terms and definitions (actually combined of 22 terms and definitions). The role and function of the terms and definitions is to settle conflicts and discussions regarding terms and definitions presented throughout the standard.
