ISO 9001:2008 vs. ISO 9001:2015 Leadership and Commitment

Another difference between the the ISO 9001:2008 and its younger brother ISO 9001:2015 is the reference to the management responsibility. The new ISO 9001:2015 replaces the Management responsibility with Leadership and Commitment. The main difference between the two standard regards to the role of the management in implementing the ISO 9001 standard.

The responsibility of the top management is turned into ISO 9001:2015 – Leadership and Commitment – The Top Management shall act as a model instead of committing to the ISO 9001standard by a comprehensive delegation of authorities and obligations.While the ISO 9001:2008 lays the principles of the commitment of top management regarding the quality management system, the ISO 9001:2015 demand demonstration of the commitment by adding a few elements to the principles:

  • Relating the objectives to the strategy of the organization
  • Promoting awareness of the process approach
  • Ensure the outputs of the quality management system
  • Promoting the improvement in the organization
  • Demand from other management parties to demonstrate their commitment to the quality management system – that means that officially the quality management system is not the problem of the top management alone now…
